Raymond James National Conference in Las Vegas - 2015

It was just a few weeks ago that we attended the Raymond James National Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. I thought I would share with you some of the highlights of our meeting. It is very important that our office staff gets a chance to attend these worthy events as they offer professional development, best practices, networking, as well as the newest trends in marketing and technology. It was a very full agenda and the most attended conference in my 40 years of association. 4,000+!

One of the national conference professional developments presentation highlights was delivered by John Spence, an instructor at the security industry institute at Wharton and at MIT’s entrepreneurial master’s program. He shared the hallmarks of high performing businesses and discussed the importance of organizational and personal accountability. His actionable recommendations and access to his resources and presentations are available free on his website, Awesomely Simple. This year’s conference was all about getting better and he had some great ideas.

We also heard from the CEO Paul Reilly, who has succeeded Tom James as CEO, on the status of the firm, current and potential regulation, and industry trends. Raymond James puts together a terrific conference every year and this was no different. Our motto was “What Happens in Vegas Comes Back to the Office.” Here, our extended team shared insights, ideas, and best practices to benefit our clients. We are working on a few of those new techniques, but before we incorporate them we will take our time to insure they are properly vetted. We love new technology if it can help us and you be more efficient.

As for a little socialization, we did get a chance to enjoy a bit of the town. Whether it was going on a fun run or walk to raise money for charity or having dinner at a local restaurant. Tuesday we had an outing at the House of Blues on top of Mandalay Bay, a great way to see the Vegas strip! Wednesday night we were downtown old Las Vegas, a new experience to an old town. We visited the Mob Museum where we looked at the history of some of the most notorious mobsters that started Vegas way back when, reminiscent of "The Godfather."

We also heard from portfolio managers and strategists on markets, views on interest rates, retirement income, healthcare in the future, and much more as we gathered many hours of CE.

Have a great month!

The Advisor Hall of Fame is selected based on industry tenure, acquisition of substantial assets under managements, superior client service, and recognition from peers and the broader community for the honor they reflect on their profession. The Barron’s Top 100 Women Financial Advisors ranking reflects the volume of assets overseen by the advisors and their teams, revenues generated for the firms and the quality of the advisors’ practices. The “150 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors” award was based in part on credentials, experience, compensation arrangements, minimum investment requirements, a good regulatory compliance record and charitable work. Consideration was also given to advisors who specialize in physician business or the medical field. Research magazine’s rankings are based on quantitative (assets under management and revenue produced) and qualitative criteria (compliance records, discussions with management, experience levels, interviews, etc.). Worth magazine’s “Top 250 Wealth Advisors” weighed numerous factors including educational and professional credentials, approaches to customer service, portfolio management and risk, an understanding of the global markets and the advisors’ ability to intelligently discuss the current investment climate. For all of the above awards, past performance is not indicative of future results and individual experiences may vary.
